Airgun Safety
Airgun safety rules to live by.
While enjoying your Hatsan airgun, please keep the following safety tips in mind:
Firearm Safety
- Read and follow all instructions and warnings in the owner’s manual.
- Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and clear of obstructions.
- Treat every airgun as if it were loaded.
- Never climb or jump over anything with your airgun in hand.
- Wear eye protection and consider wearing ear protection – especially when shooting in enclosed areas.
- Never load your airgun until you are ready to shoot.
- Keep the safety engaged until you are ready to shoot.
- Don’t place your finger on or near the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
- Know the danger distance (how far ammunition may travel) of your airgun.
- Check your target and beyond your target to ensure you have a safe backstop and that no people, pets, or property could be in danger.
- Shoot only the correct caliber and type of ammunition designated for your air rifle.
- Avoid ricochet by not shooting at hard surfaces or the surface of water.
- Always check to see that the safety is engaged and the airgun is unloaded when receiving it from another person or getting it out of storage.
- Perform regular maintenance.
- Store your airgun in a safe place away from the ammunition.
Firearm Safety
- Always practice safe handling of your firearm and maintain awareness of the environment in which you are doing so.
- Treat every gun as if it were loaded at all times.
- Never allow the gun to be aimed at anything you do not wish to destroy.
- Keep the gun on safe and your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire it.
- Be aware of your target, your surroundings, and what is beyond your target at all times.
- Always transport and store your firearm unloaded.
- Always check that your firearm is unloaded when retrieving it from storage, passing it to another person, or receiving it from another person.
- Keep the barrel clear of obstructions and be aware of the possibility of squibs.
- Handle and carry the gun in a manner that allows you to maintain control of the muzzle and the direction in which it is pointed.
- Do not climb over obstacles with a loaded gun.
- Do not shoot at water or hard, flat surfaces – this will help prevent unwanted ricochets.
- Do not consume alcohol or other mind/behavior-altering substances before or while handling your firearm.
